Its participants will compete in dozens of events including football, basketball, volleyball, weightlifting, wrestling, judo, field hockey, track and field and gymnastics in Pyongyang, Wonsan, Phyongsong, Haeju, Nampho and other cities.

Present there were Kim Ki Nam, secretary of the C.C., the Workers' Party of Korea, Kim Yong Jin, vice-premier, Ri Yong Su, department director of the C.C., the WPK, officials concerned, sports persons and citizens.

Vice Premier Kim Yong Jin made an opening address.

At the end of the opening ceremony there took place the men's volleyball game between the April 25 Team and Amnokgang Team.
