Bird Flu Spreads in DPRK

Pyongyang, April 9 (KCNA) -- Bird flu recently occurred again in the Democratic People's Republic of Korea, in the wake of similar case found in April last year. In this regard, KCNA met Ri Kyong Gun, a department director of the Ministry of Agriculture. Ri said: Bird flu, whose virus was confirmed to be H5N1, broke out in the Hadang Chicken Farm in Hyongjesan District, Pyongyang, on March 21 and has spread over other chicken farms. Tens of thousands of chickens died or were culled. A National Veterinary Emergency Control Commission was organized and an emergency quarantine campaign against bird flu was declared throughout the country. Steps have been taken to quarantine and disinfect the infected areas and bury the dead. |
