Basing himself on the principle that arms is decisive of the nation's destiny and the victory of revolution, Kim Il Sung founded the Korean People's Revolutionary Army on April 25, Juche 21 (1932) to fight the Japanese invaders.

Since then, the Korean people have had their own army and a new history of the victorious Korean revolution started with armed struggle as the main.

In the whole period of his protracted revolutionary activities he had directed primary efforts to strengthening the revolutionary armed forces. Under his Songun (military-first) guidance, the Korean people defeated the Japanese and U.S. invaders in one generation and turned the whole country into an impregnable fortress.

The cause of building the Juche-based armed forces developed on a higher level under Kim Jong Il's Songun politics.

Kim Jong Il began his Songun leadership with an inspection tour of the Seoul Ryu Kyong Su Guards 105th Tank Division of the KPA. Giving top priority to the military affairs, he energetically led the work to beef up the nation's military strength.

When the country was undergoing the grimmest trial, he pursued the Songun politics in an all-round way, thus turning the KPA into a powerful elite Paektusan revolutionary army and the DPRK into a military power and a full-fledged nuclear weapons state.

The DPRK's armed forces have greeted a heyday of their development under the leadership of Kim Jong Un.

Kim Jong Un has paid big efforts to building the KPA into the ranks of genuine comrades-in-arms sharing the same destiny with their supreme commander. He frequently finds himself among soldiers in frontline areas and does not hesitate to go even to the biggest hotspot to bring about the final victory in showdown with the U.S.
