Pyongyang, April 27 (KCNA) -- The United Confederation of Koreans in Russia sent a protest letter on April 19 to the Japanese ambassador to Russia denouncing the Japanese authorities for cracking down on the General Association of Korean Residents in Japan (Chongryon). The letter recalled that the delegation of the Committee for Promoting Korea's Reunification visited the Central Standing Committee of Chongryon in Tokyo in 1992. Going round various units of Chongryon including the Korean Hall and Korean University, members of the delegation felt the national dignity and honor, seeing Chongryon officials and Koreans in Japan preserving and glorifying the Korean language and national culture despite the moves of the Japanese authorities to obliterate the Korean nation, the letter said. The Korean Hall of Chongryon, in particular, is the place where Koreans in Japan are cherishing national self-esteem, it held. It denounced the Japanese authorities for having recently made an illegal decision to sell the Korean Hall, ceaselessly discriminating and cracking down on Chongryon officials. The United Confederation of Koreans in Russia protests against the suppression of Chongryon, it said and urged the Japanese authorities to respect international law and human rights and stop the moves to deprive Chongryon of its right. |
