President Kim Il Sung founded the Korean People's Revolutionary Army, the revolutionary armed forces, on April 25, 1932.

It fought against the brigandish Japanese imperialists with neither state support nor home front and liberated the country.

The KPA developed into a regular army under the wise leadership of Kim Il Sung after the liberation. It won a brilliant victory in the 3-year war for defending freedom, independence and the gains of revolution from the aggression by the ferocious U.S. imperialists who boasted of being the "strongest" in the world and the imperialist allied forces of 15 satellite states.

The KPA honorably defended the gains of revolution, smashing all the ceaseless war provocation moves of the U.S. imperialists such as the armed spy ship Pueblo incident, the large spy plane EC-121 incident, the Panmunjom incident, etc. in the 1960s and the 1970s.

Kim Jong Il, chairman of the National Defence Commission of the DPRK, directed the primary efforts to strengthening the military capability, holding high the banner of Songun late in the 20th century. Therefore, the KPA further developed politically, ideologically and in military technique and grew to be an elite army capable of smashing any imperialist aggression at a go.

It is creating new miracles and innovations at every worksite for socialist economic construction under the slogan of "Let the People's Army take charge of both national defence and socialist construction!"

The victorious history of the KPA will be given a steady continuity along with the revolutionary cause of Songun.
