Jon Yu Sun beat her rivals from Taipei of China and Mongolia in the 48 kg category event and advanced into a final match. In the match she trounced her Japanese rival with an overwhelming technical edge.

In the meantime, Kim Su Gyong came second in the women's 63kg category and Kim Chung Hyok, Choe Yong Sik and Pak Hong Wi placed third in the men's 60kg, 66kg and 81kg categories and Rim Song Sim and Kim Song Hwa finished third in the women's 52kg and 70kg categories respectively.

DPRK judoists took the third place in the women's team event of the championships.
