It was decided at the general assembly of the International Taekwon-Do Federation (ITF) held in Sofia, Bulgaria in July 2013.

An organizing committee has been already inaugurated for the successful holding of the championships in Pyongyang.

Its Chairman Cha Hui Rim, who is chairman of the Pyongyang City People's Committee, told KCNA that the organizing committee would do its best to make the championships a significant occasion conducive to strengthening the ITF and promoting the solidarity among Taekwon-Do players in the world.
