Pyongyang, May 17 (KCNA) -- The Round-table Conference of People from All Walks of Life to Cope with Ferry Sewol Disaster in south Korea grouping at least 500 civic and public organizations held a press conference in Seoul on May 13 at which it called for turning out in an all-people action. At the press conference speakers said that the people are growing angry, clearly seeing through reality how corrupt those in power are. The people should get together to hold an all-people memorial service for the victims, they held. Then an action plan was read out. The organization declared it would honor the memory of the victims and rise up in an all-people action to probe the truth about the sinking accident and prevent the reoccurrence of similar accidents. To this end, it will form an all-people fact-finding group with experts, bereaved families and people and conduct activities including memorial service, publication of a white paper on the disaster and a million persons signature campaign, the organization noted. It read out a statement calling for taking measures to rescue those missing. The statement urged the "government" to rescue all those missing and let the bereaved families and people participate in the work for clarifying the cause of the disaster, holding officials concerned responsible for it and taking measures to prevent the recurrence of similar accidents. It also urged the "government" to quickly open to public all information about the cause of the accident and rescue operations and stop at once human rights abuses against the bereaved families. |
