Generalissimo Kim Jong Il formulated the artistic representation of leader as the essence of building the Juche-based literature, and initiated the production of this film on the basis of "Star of Korea", a song young communists created and disseminated in praise of President Kim Il Sung in the early period of the Korean revolution.

The ten-part film is set against the background of the period between the1920s and 1930s (the period of anti-Japanese armed struggle in Korea), and vividly represents part of the history of activities of Kim Il Sung, who paved the path of the Korean revolution under the banner of the Juche idea.

The film shows the greatness and noble traits of the President who saved the Korean revolution from a crisis and led it to a fresh upsurge with his firm independent stand and indomitable will. And it tells about the spirit the young Korean revolutionaries displayed to devotedly defend their leader and carry out the Juche-based lines and policies advanced by him for the Korean revolution.

It also deals with the high sense of obligation and comradeship of the young revolutionaries closely united around their leader and the devoted efforts made by Kim Il Sung to rally the nationalists around the anti-Japanese national united front, realize the alliance with the Chinese anti-Japanese nationalist units and lead the Korean people's anti-Japanese armed struggle to victory.

The production of this film was of weighty significance in carrying out the Workers' Party of Korea's literary and art policy.
