Punishment of Those Responsible for Sewol Disaster Demanded
Pyongyang, May 24 (KCNA) -- Kyunghyang Daily News of south Korea in an editorial on May 22 called for punishing corrupt and incompetent guys who caused the Sewol disaster.

The upcoming June 4 elections to local self-governing bodies will serve as an occasion for judging the incompetence and political failure of the "government" that caused the tragedy and chaos in putting the disaster under control, the editorial said.

People's mind should be correctly reflected in the elections, the editorial noted, calling for taking part in the elections to do away with the political failure that caused the disaster.

It went on:

Lurking behind the ferry sinking is incompetence and irresponsibility of the "government" and idleness and corruption of public officials.

Negligence of politics and abstention from voting may result in leaving just as they are those responsible for the tragedy.

Kukmin Ilbo also carried an editorial on the same day.

It noted that running high is the people's resentment at the "government's" incompetence and corrupt political camp and their distrust in the regime as was disclosed in the course of putting the Sewol disaster under control. It went on:

There is a strong movement among politicians signaling the intention to use the Sewol disaster for serving political and strategic purposes. They should refrain from the act of rubbing salt into the wounds of the bereaved families.
