Chongryon was formed on May 25, Juche 44 (1955) according to the policy of President Kim Il Sung that overseas compatriots' movement should become a national patriotic movement truly conducive to the revolution of the DPRK from a Juche-based stand.

The formation of Chongryon made it possible to turn the movement of Koreans in Japan into a national patriotic movement guided by the great Juche idea, and the Koreans in Japan could independently carve out their destinies, being affiliated to the genuine compatriots' organization which represents and defends their national rights and interests, Rodong Sinmun says.

Leader Kim Jong Il carried forward the President's idea of the Juche-based overseas compatriots' movement, performing undying feats for the strengthening of Chongryon.

Marshal Kim Jong Un, carrying forward the intention and love of Kim Il Sung and Kim Jong Il, has shown warm loving care and trusted the Koreans in Japan, regarding them as the same kinsmen.

He sent messages and congratulatory message to the meeting of officials of branches of Chongryon, to the organization on the occasions of the 65th anniversary of the DPRK and the 23rd Congress of Chongryon. They are important guidelines to be held fast to by Chongryon in the new century of Juche.

Chongryon and Koreans in Japan should usher in a new heyday of the movement of Koreans in Japan.

Minju Joson in an editorial says it is the pride of the DPRK and honor of the nation to have the powerful Chongryon, adding that only victory and glory are in store for Chongryon advancing under the leadership of Kim Jong Un.
