23rd Congress of Chongryon Held

Tokyo, May 25 (KNS-KCNA) -- There took place the 23rd Congress of the General Association of Korean Residents in Japan (Chongryon) at the Korean Hall in Tokyo, Japan on Saturday and Sunday in the historic period when a decisive turn was taking place in the accomplishment of the revolutionary cause of Juche and the Koreans' movement in Japan. Present at the congress were Chairman Ho Jong Man and vice-chairmen of the Central Standing Committee of Chongryon and delegates elected by institutions, bodies and enterprises at various levels of Chongryon. A congratulatory message sent by Marshal Kim Jong Un to the congress was read out there. A report on the examination of qualifications was made there to be followed by a discussion on the following agenda items: 1. "On report to the 23rd congress of Chongryon" 2. "On settlement of finance and draft budget" 3. "On election of officials of the central organs of Chongryon" The report to the congress was made by Chairman Ho Jong Man. The reporter stressed that the 23rd Congress of Chongryon is the one of loyalty and single-minded unity to hold Kim Jong Un in high esteem as a unitary center of unity and leadership and the one of succession and innovation to develop the work of Chongryon on a fresh high level by thoroughly carrying out the behests of President Kim Il Sung and leader Kim Jong Il. Kim Jong Un sent a historic congratulatory message to the congress, providing important guidelines for the development of Chongryon and the movement of Koreans in Japan, he noted. He referred to the fact that in the period under review Chongryon and Koreans in Japan have held Kim Il Sung and Kim Jong Il in high esteem as the eternal sun of the nation and dynamically waged their movement under the wise leadership of Kim Jong Un. He went on: The emulation among the branches of Chongryon participated in by 30 branches and responded to by 125 others helped increase the role of the branches of Chongryon and fresh successes and experience were gained in revitalizing the work of chapters and grass-roots level organizations of Chongryon. Great efforts have been exerted to develop national education and the work with the younger generation and Korean traders and industrialists in Japan even under so hard political and economic situation in the period under review. Chongryon has made tangible efforts conducive to the economic construction and improvement of the standard of the people's living in the homeland by giving play to the patriotic enthusiasm of the officials of Chongryon and other Koreans in Japan including traders and industrialists. It also joined in the nation-wide struggle for the country's reunification under the banner of By the Korean Nation Itself. The reporter pointed to the major tasks to be fulfilled by Chongryon in four years to come so as to usher in a new heyday along the true path of the movement of Koreans. The general orientation of the work of the 23rd term of Chongryon is to thoroughly implement the behests of Kim Il Sung and Kim Jong Il, hold Kim Jong Un in high esteem as a unitary center of unity and leadership and usher in a new heyday of Chongryon as required by the era of Kim Jong Un, in hearty response to the message sent by him to the congress, he noted, adding: All the officials of Chongryon and Koreans in Japan will celebrate the 60th anniversary of Chongryon with proud successes in their work and hold with splendor events involving all the organizations of Chongryon and compatriots and thus strikingly demonstrate the might of Chongryon, a unit of loyalists and ranks based on single-minded unity. We will develop Chongryon into a mighty organization with steadfast tradition, strong mass foundation and bright prospect along the path of Juche. Chongryon will hold Kim Jong Un in high esteem as a unitary center of unity and successfully ensure his monolithic leadership over the Koreans' movement in Japan. It will turn the patriotic movement into the one centered on the rising generation with the congress as a momentum. We will channel all our efforts to making sure that the rising generation which received national education may play a pivotal role in giving steady continuity to the proud history of Chongryon as it is fine in its tradition and great in its succession. Chongryon will strenuously wage a patriotic movement for the happiness of compatriots and the rosy future of the posterity. It will make a tangible contribution to the building of a thriving nation in the homeland and the accomplishment of the country's reunification and conduct brisk external activities. A report on the work of the Central Audit Committee of Chongryon was made to be followed by speeches on the first agenda item. The speakers evinced their firm will to certainly usher in a new heyday of Chongryon in hearty response to the congratulatory message sent by Kim Jong Un. Read out at the congress were congratulatory messages sent by various organs in the homeland including the Committee for Aiding Overseas Compatriots of the DPRK and the greetings extended by personages of various circles in the homeland, overseas compatriots' organizations and organizations of Japan. Congratulatory speeches were made by Dewi Soekarno, director of the International Kim Il Sung Prize Council, Kenichi Ogami, secretary general of the International Institute of the Juche Idea, Fumihiro Himori, chairman of the Japan Committee for Supporting the Independent and Peaceful Reunification of Korea, and other personages of various circles of Japan and personages of political parties including the New Komeito Party of Japan, the Japanese Democratic Party and the Social-Democratic Party of Japan. Representatives of Korean youth and students in Japan mounted the stage and warmly congratulated Chongryon on its 23rd Congress. The Committee for Nominating Officials of the Central Standing Committee of Chongryon and the Committee for Examining the Finance Settlement and Draft Budget were formed at the congress. The report to the congress was adopted as a decision of the congress. A report on the second agenda item was made by the Committee for Examining the Finance Settlement and Draft Budget to be followed by the announcement of the results of examination. At the congress Ho Jong Man was elected chairman of the Central Standing Committee of Chongryon, Nam Sung U, Pae Ik Ju, Pae Jin Gu, Pak Ku Ho and Kang Chu Ryon vice chairpersons of the committee and Pae Jin Ku director general of the General Affairs Department of the committee. Members of the Central Standing Committee and the Central Audit Committee of Chongryon were elected at the congress. A letter to Kim Jong Un was adopted there. At the end of the congress the Central Standing Committee was formed at the 1st session of the 23rd Chongryon Central Committee. While the congress was under way, an art performance "Eternal Chongryon under the care of sun" was given and a photo exhibition was held. |
