Italian Political Party Protests against Japan's Suppression of Chongryon
Pyongyang, May 29 (KCNA) -- The Unified Communist Party of Italy on May 16 sent letters to the prime minister, Cabinet Secretariat, Foreign Ministry and Ministry of Justice of Japan in protest against the Japanese authorities' suppression of the General Association of Korean Residents in Japan (Chongryon).

The letter said:

It is a well-known fact that many Koreans who were taken away to Japan and forced to do slavery labor during the Second World War are still living there.

The Korean Hall of Chongryon is the base for Koreans who were taken away to Japan and their descendants to get together and learn and preserve the national culture, tradition and history of their homeland.

Chongryon is linking Koreans in Japan with the DPRK, their homeland. But the Japanese authorities are encroaching upon its dignity.

They should recognize Chongryon and stop suppressing it.

We pay attention to the fact that all these are being committed by the Japanese right-wing forces that refuse to make an apology before the people who were subject to oppression by Japanese imperialism, patronize the war criminals and incite revanchism and ultra-nationalism.

We hold that all Japan's moves including re-arming are related to the strategic goal of the U.S. to maintain world domination by monopolistic capital and military presence in Northeast Asia.

We bitterly denounce the Japanese authorities for their frantic suppression of Chongryon.
