River Improvements in Steady Progress in DPRK
Pyongyang, June 11 (KCNA) -- The DPRK has paid big efforts to river improvements.

In this regard, KCNA met Pang Song Gun, a deputy director of the Ministry of Land and Environment Protection.

Pang said:

A series of downpour in recent years had claimed huge losses in the DPRK.

Now, the people throughout the country have improved at least 1 700km-long riverside in the spring period of the general mobilization for land management.

A number of dykes including those along the Taedong, Ryesong and Songchon rivers have been reconditioned as required by technical regulations.

North Hamgyong Province finished improving riversides along the Tuman River and Susong Stream. 75 hectares of riverbank were afforested and more than 50 hectares planted with turf along the Susong Stream.

Kangwon Province has nearly carried out the project to repair some dykes.

It took only five days in Pongsan County, North Hwanghae Province to dredge up 10,000 cubic meters of earth and pave with stone 1,500 square-meters of riverside stretching 7.5 kilometers in five rivers including the Sohung River.
