Officials and Workers of GFTUK Makes Study Tour of Revolutionary Battle Sites in Mt. Paektu Area

Samjiyon, June 19 (KCNA) -- Officials and members of the General Federation of Trade Unions of Korea (GFTUK) made a study tour of the revolutionary battle sites in the area of Mt. Paektu from June 11 to 18 on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of leader Kim Jong Il's start of work at the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea (WPK). They laid floral baskets and flowers before the statues of President Kim Il Sung and the mosaics in the Paektusan Secret Camp depicting the three commanders of Mt. Paektu of the Monument to the Victorious Battle of Pochonbo and the Pochonbo Revolutionary Battle Site and at the shore of Lake Samji before paying tribute to them. They were briefed on the Pochonbo Revolutionary Battle Site before going round the command post of the battle, the police post of Japanese imperialists, sub-county office, post office, etc. They toured the Samjiyon Grand Monument and various places in the township including the Samjiyon Schoolchildren's Palace and the Pegaebong Noodle House. After visiting the Paektusan Secret Camp, they held a meeting to take a pledge before Kim Jong Il's birthplace in the camp. At the end of the meeting they looked round the historic relics preserved with much care there, being briefed on the fact that Kim Jong Il who was born as the Shining Star of Mt. Paektu grew up there, hearing the gun reports during the great anti-Japanese war. Watching the trees bearing slogans at the Chongbong, Konchang and Pegaebong bivouacs, they pledged to learn from the intense loyalty and patriotism of the anti-Japanese revolutionary forerunners. During their tour they held diverse political and cultural events. |
