W. A. Duminduwardane, chairman of the Committee for Self-Reliance Studies in Sri Lanka, was elected chairman of the remembrance committee and its Secretary-general Upali Bandara secretary general.

The committee decided to hold political and cultural events praising the revolutionary career of the President and his exploits on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of his demise.
