Present there were Kim Ki Nam, Choe Thae Bok, Choe Ryong Hae and other senior officials of the party and state, a chairperson of a friendly party, officials of the party and power organs, social organizations, ministries, national institutions, officials in the fields of science, education, literature and arts, public health and media, working people, youth and students, more than 100 000 in all.

Also present there were overseas Koreans and the chief of the Pyongyang Mission of the Anti-Imperialist National Democratic Front.

Invited there were diplomatic envoys of different countries, representatives of international organizations, staff members of foreign embassies, military attaches corps and foreign guests here.

Cha Hui Rim, chairman of the Pyongyang City People's Committee, made a speech at the rally.

He said: The U.S. imperialists ignited a war of aggression against the DPRK 64 years ago in order to stifle the young DPRK and dominate the whole world, with huge aggression troops armed with the latest weapons, south Korean puppet army and the troops of 15 satellite countries involved. They committed monstrous crimes unprecedented in human history.

However, they could not bring to their knees the army and people of the DPRK who turned out as one in the war to protect the freedom and independence of the country, national sovereignty and the gains of the revolution true to the wise leadership of President Kim Il Sung.

They have gone frantic with the moves for a new war to stifle the DPRK, far from drawing a due lesson from the ignominious defeat they suffered in the Korean war.

The speaker called upon all service personnel and people to achieve the final victory in the confrontation with the U.S. which lasted for several decades, accomplish the historic cause of national reunification, step up the building of a thriving socialist nation and thus complete the revolutionary cause of Juche to the last.

Representatives of workers, agricultural workers and youth and students evinced their resolution to give the fullest play to the bolstered-up might of Songun and vent the pent-up resentment and thus drive the aggressors out of this land and achieve the historic cause of national reunification without fail if the U.S. imperialists and the south Korean puppet group hurt the sovereignty and dignity of the DPRK even a bit.

Then followed a demonstration.

The demonstrators marched past the square, holding such placards reading "Let's force the U.S. imperialists to pay dearly for the blood shed by Koreans!" and "Let's take thousands-fold revenge upon the U.S. imperialist aggressors!"
