Pyongyang, June 26 (KCNA) -- The Thremmatology Institute under the Academy of Forestry in the DPRK has recently cultivated a new species of crataegus pinnatifida. The fruit of crataegus pinnatifida is known as raw material for the food industry as it is rich in nutrients, including organic acid and vitamin C. It also serves as Koryo medicine efficacious for cardioneurosis, stenocardia and rheumatic myocarditis. The institute solved the technical problems arising in breeding and cultivating the new species to raise it in a big way across the country. The new species grows 7-8 meters high, and its fruit is 1.4 times higher in the rate of pap and twice in content of water-soluble sugar, as compared with other species of crataegus pinnatifida. The fruit is generally 1.8-2 times bigger in size and its yield per hectare 3-3.8 times higher and abundant in medicinal components good for heart, 115-120 times those of other species. This tree can be also used as a garden plant for its good shape. |
