S. Korean People Dismiss Results of Review of Kono Statement
Pyongyang, June 27 (KCNA) -- People of different social standings in south Korea are condemning the Japanese authorities for their despicable moves to twist the essence of the Kono statement in which he partially admitted the sexual slavery for the Imperial Japanese Army.

The south Korean newspaper Hangyore on June 20 in an editorial clarified that the Japanese authorities made public the results of the review of the statement which said there was adjustment of wordings with the south Korean authorities when the Japanese government was working out the statement in 1993.

Lurking behind this was its intention to downplay the meaning of the statement by hinting that it was a product of the diplomatic negotiations, the newspaper said, and went on:

The gravity of the review of the statement is that it was part of the Japanese moves to distort the history.

The south Korean internet newspaper Voice of People on June 21 said in an editorial that the announcement of the results of the review was a third-rate act of denying the statement itself.

The Citizens Solidarity for Democratic Society on June 23 released a statement denouncing the Japanese authorities' announcement of the results of the review of the statement.
