S. Korean Authorities Flailed for Suppressing Teachers Union
Pyongyang, June 27 (KCNA) -- The spokesman for the Central Committee of the Educational and Cultural Workers' Union of Korea issued a statement Friday denouncing the south Korean authorities for cracking down on the Teachers Union.

The statement recalled that recently the puppet Seoul Administrative Court made a decision that the Teachers Union is an outlawed trade union and deprived it of its legitimate status.

This was an action of strangling the inviolable democratic platform and a heinous undemocratic act to stamp out progressive and democratic forces and revive the "yusin" dictatorship, it said, and went on:

The Teachers Union was formed in 1989, gained the status of the legitimate trade union in 1999 through the undaunted struggle against the brutal fascist suppression by the puppet group. It is a progressive educational organization which has taken the lead in the struggle for the education movement and independence, democracy and reunification in south Korea for the past 15 years.

To defend the Teachers Union in south Korea is a serious and crucial issue to win social democracy.

The people from all walks of life in south Korea should turn out as one in the just struggle to protect the Teachers Union from the undemocratic violence by the fascists to trample down the inviolable platform and deprive it of the right to genuine education.

We will as ever positively support the Teachers Union in its activities for social democracy, peace and independent reunification against outsiders and for genuine education.
