Fauna on Increase in Arboretum of Kumsusan Palace of Sun

Pyongyang, July 7 (KCNA) -- Species of birds and animals are on the increase in the Arboretum of the Kumsusan Palace of the Sun, according to the findings published by the Zoology Research Institute under the State Academy of Sciences. A research group of the institute found out that different species of over 1,600 birds originated in the south nestled in the arboretum. In this regard, Kim Kyong Jun, a section chief of the institute, told KCNA that at least 150 species of birds, including oriole, migratory grosbeak, pheasant, broad-billed roller and thrush, have nestled in the arboretum. It accounts for one third of all species of birds living in the DPRK, he said, adding the research verified that more than 20 species of animals have also inhabited in the arboretum. Pak Rae Bon, an ornithologist, said that the thick forest newly created in the area has a good prospect of more diverse fauna for its favorable ecological environment. |
