Under the critical situation where the 38th Parallel divided Korea into two parts and the north and the south were taking completely different paths after its liberation, Kim Il Sung made a scientific clarification of the root cause of the country's division and the essence of the issue of national reunification.

He provided the three charters for national reunification, thus laying a solid foundation for enabling all the Koreans in the north, the south and abroad to put an end to the interference of outsiders and hasten the independent reunification of the country as a driving force for national reunification.

Thanks to his energetic leadership, the historic July 4 joint statement was finally published in Pyongyang and Seoul on July 4, Juche 61 (1972) simultaneously, the keynote of which was the three principles of national reunification. This was fully supported and hailed by the public at home and abroad.

He confirmed that the mode of achieving reunification by federal formula of our style was to establish the Democratic Federal Republic of Koryo on the three principles of independence, peaceful reunification and great national unity.

The ten-point programme of the great unity of the whole nation set forth by him is a political programme which should be certainly taken as the guidelines for strengthening the driving force of national reunification by achieving the unity of all Koreans.

The undying exploits he performed by rallying all Koreans under the banner of the great national unity and developing the movement for the country's reunification into a nation-wide patriotic struggle will shine long along with the history of the nation.
