In the period farms under the Fruit Farming Guidance Bureau had concentrated efforts on expanding the orchards under a long-term plan and putting their manuring and cultivation on a scientific basis, Kim Chol Ho, director of a department of the Ministry of Agriculture, told KCNA, adding:

As a result, thousands of hectares of orchards were newly created through a drive to plant dwarf apple and other fruit trees in unoccupied fields and nurseries built for sharp persimmon, jujube and Korean vine.

And the farms introduced advanced farming methods and tended those orchards in a proper way, thus ensuring the rate of rooting at 90 percent.

Practical steps were taken to ameliorate soil and improve the manuring method, while a brisk campaign was launched to introduce the agro-forestry management.

Besides, 10-odd new inventions were applied in the combat against harmful insects to ensure the smooth growth of fruit trees and raise the rate of actual fruit yield to the maximum.

Those fruit farms are now striving to improve the quality of fruits.
