The IS set up the center in 2008 under the pretext of investigating specified objects. It threw those who were caught in its claws into solitary cells under the pretext of "personal inquiries" without going through legal procedures and committed such shuddering atrocities as investigating them and resorting to violent acts and languages in wanton violation of human rights.

What merits more serious attention is that the sole aim sought by the IS coteries when operating the center was to produce "spies" who received instructions from the "north".

The spy case of the Seoul City public official whose falsity was brought to light last year was also fabricated in the center.

The south Korean people of different social standings are calling for investigating the case to the last.

The situation goes to clearly prove that as long as the IS is allowed to remain, it is impossible to realize the nation's reconciliation and unity, the improvement of inter-Korean relations and the democracy of the south Korean society.

For the Korean nation, the IS is a cancer-like entity that should be removed at an early date, the commentary concludes.
