The part-time job chapter of Hyundai Iron Works of the South Chungchong Provincial Branch and the part-time job chapter of Hyundai Iron Works of the Kwangju-South Jolla Provincial Branch of Metal Workers' Trade Union held a ceremony of kicking off a joint strike in Seoul on July 10.

Speakers at the ceremony accused the enterprise management side of reneging on the promise it made with the part-time workers, declaring they would not take part in the business activities that impose sacrifices on the subcontracted workers only.

More than 10 workers have lost their lives since last year but the management side has not owned any responsibility for them, the speakers deplored.

They called for the restructuring of the harsh labor system whereby no holiday is allowed if other colleagues do not work to substitute those on off day.

They vowed to fight it out until subcontracted workers and part-time workers may safely work in their work sites free from the danger of death.
