The editorial accused the present chief executive of declaring that she would totally open the rice market of south Korea, reneging on her commitments made during the "presidential election campaign."

Peasants staged such protests as throwing rice in front of the "government" building, ploughing paddy fields and burning the placards critical of the present regime in effigy, it said, and continued:

In an opinion poll the overwhelming majority of the pollees voiced opposition to the opening of the rice market.

The "government's" declaration of opening the rice market fully revealed the real picture of the corrupt power as it is an act of selling off the agriculture of south Korea lock, stock and barrel.

Defending the food sovereignty is not the task to be fulfilled by the peasants only, it held, calling for turning out as one in the actions against the "government".
