Downpour Hits DPRK

Pyongyang, July 26 (KCNA) -- Typhoon-10, which turned to low pressure, moving northeast through the central West Sea of Korea, brought much rainfalls to most areas of the DPRK between 18:00 Thursday and 18:00 Saturday. More than 200 mm rainfalls were registered in 20 cities and counties of the country. In particular, it rained 298 mm in Kusong City, 293 mm in Anju City, 247 mm in Yomju County, 238 mm in Munchon City, 237 mm in Cholsan County, 233 mm in Nyongbyon County, 230 mm in Unjon County, 229 mm in Kaechon City and 228 mm in Tongchang County. Downpour hit most areas of North Phyongan Province, Pyongyang City and some areas of South Phyongan, North Hwanghae, Kangwon and Jagang provinces. In three hours Yomju County witnessed rainfalls of 120 mm, Cholsan County 108 mm, Ryongchon County 105 mm, Kusong City 103 mm, Uiju County 91 mm, Tongchang County 77 mm, Sonchon County 76 mm and Changsong County 70 mm. Storms at a speed of over 10 meters per second swept most areas in the west coast and some areas of South Hamgyong and Kangwon Provinces. Wind of 24m/s was observed in coastal area of Ryongyon County, 20m/s in Kaesong City and Kumchon County of North Hwanghae Province, 18m/s in Rinsan County of North Hwanghae Province and Onchon County, Nampho City and 15m/s in Phihyon County of North Phyongan Province and Pongchon, Yonan, and Paechon counties of South Hwanghae Province. In the morning of Saturday, 80 cm-high wave was seen in the sea off Haeju City, South Hwanghae Province and 49 cm-high wave in the waters off Mongumpho. |
