Pyongyang, July 27 (KCNA) -- During the 1950-1953 Fatherland Liberation War, President Kim Il Sung frustrated the U.S. imperialist strategic schemes and turned the war situation in favor of the Korean People's Army with his superb war tactics. It was one day in late January Juche 40 (1951) that Kim Il Sung called at a command post of the KPA to take a step against the enemy's tanks. Informed that it was hard to use artillery pieces in destroying the enemy's tanks in daytime because of its warplanes, he suggested organizing tank-hunting teams, saying that the enemy tanks could not move freely apart from roads, due to the topographical conditions of Korea, which has lots of marshlands in its western part and mountainous areas in its central and eastern parts. Advising KPA officers to take advantage of such weak point of the enemy's tanks, he stressed the need to launch a tank-hunting team movement so as to contain the mobility of the enemy tanks. Any tank without mobility is as good as a dead tiger, he added. After all, tank-hunting teams came into being at the KPA units, and they destroyed more than 200 enemy tanks in 1952 alone. |
