Taejon Liberation Combat

Pyongyang, July 29 (KCNA) -- During the Fatherland Liberation War (June 25, 1950-July 27, 1953), President Kim Il Sung commanded to victory the combat to liberate Taejon City in south Korea. At the first stage of the war, combined units of the Korean People's Army (KPA) beat back the armed invasion made by the south Korean puppet troop and switched over to the counteroffensive in all directions. Much frightened at their rapid southward advance, the U.S. imperialists built a defence line along the River Kum, vaunting it as the "line of no retreat". At that time, Kim Il Sung gave an order to the KPA combined units to suddenly cross the river and annihilate the enemies in Taejon through encirclement. According to his order, the KPA combined units successfully carried out the river-crossing operation to break through the "line of no retreat" and advance towards Taejon, while some of them swiftly flanked the city to cut off the enemies' retreat. On the order of the President, the KPA combined units made three-pronged assaults against the enemies in Taejon on July 20, Juche 39 (1950) and destroyed them in seven hours. In the combat, the U.S. 24th Infantry Division, which boasted itself to be "undefeated division", was exterminated with its commander Dean captured. Indeed, the victory in the Taejon liberation combat would have been unthinkable without the Juche-oriented war tactics and unique commanding art of Kim Il Sung. |
