Going round the Pyongyang City light industrial goods exhibition on August 3, Juche 73 (1984), he gave teachings that would serve as the guidelines in conducting the consumer goods production movement involving all masses.

Since then, a new history of the massive movement began in the DPRK and various consumer goods which were on sale at city (district) and county direct sale shops were called "August 3 consumer goods".

Present at the meeting were Kim Ki Nam, Ro Tu Chol, An Jong Su, department director of the C.C., the Workers' Party of Korea, leading officials of the power bodies, working people's organizations, ministries and national institutions and officials and labor innovators who set examples in the August 3 consumer goods production movement.

Ro Tu Chol, vice-premier of the Cabinet and chairman of the State Planning Commission, made a report.

The August 3 consumer goods production movement which started under the leadership of Kim Jong Il was of weighty significance in putting spurs and developing consumer goods production as it is a mass movement which helps make an effective use of inner reserves and drastically increase various consumer goods production, the reporter said.

He referred to the leadership feats of Kim Jong Il which are recorded in pages of the 30 year-long history of this movement.

Kim Jong Il established the regular guidance system so that the leading officials in charge of economy might push forward with the movement, deeply grasping its essence and taking it as one of the important tasks for developing light industry as intended by the party.

He sent a letter "On Thoroughly Carrying Out the Revolution of Light Industry" to the participants in the national meeting of light industry in June, 1990.

He took revolutionary steps to continue reenergizing the consumer goods production in the difficult period when the Korean people were compelled to make the arduous march due to the moves of the imperialists to isolate and stile the DPRK.

Very busy as he was leading the Songun revolution, he paid deep attention to producing consumer goods and saw to it that a strong wind was raised to increase them.

The reporter said that supreme leader Kim Jong Un, deeply penetrating into the significance and importance of the consumer goods production movement, set forth the tasks to produce varieties of more quality consumer goods at the national meeting of light industry on March 18, 2013.

It is the steadfast will of the Workers' Party of Korea to further develop the consumer goods production movement into a massive work of the whole society at present when a grand advance for improving the people's living standard is progressing apace, the reporter said, calling upon all officials and other people to firmly preserve and eternally glorify the leadership feats of Kim Jong Il.
