It is a precious factory of the country established by President Kim Il Sung and face-lifted by leader Kim Jong Il in the 1970s when the foundations for carrying forward the Juche cause were being laid down.

Seeing handicrafts made by the Pyongyang Handicraft Works, the predecessor of the factory, on August 13, Juche 43 (1954), the President brightly indicated the road of the development of the national handicraft and wisely led the factory to successfully manufacture handicrafts as required by the times.

Kim Jong Il saw to it that the carpet production process was newly arranged in the factory and the factory was renamed the Pyongyang Carpet Factory. He significantly instituted the day of the founding of the factory, leading it to add shines to the immortal leadership exploits of the President.

The workers and officials of the factory have produced various kinds of carpets needed for the grand monumental structures of the country in a responsible manner during the past six decades and strengthened the material and technological foundation for the development of the nation's carpet industry by accelerating the modernization of the production processes.

A meeting marking the 60th anniversary of the factory took place Tuesday.

Read out at the meeting was a congratulatory message sent by the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea to the workers, technicians and officials of the factory.
