Halt to UFG Demanded by Organizations, Opposition Party of S. Korea

Pyongyang, August 19 (KCNA) -- At least 30 south Korean organizations including those for peace against war and for reunification and labor movement and those of youth, students, women and religionists, and the Unified Progressive Party held a joint press conference in Seoul on August 18 denouncing Ulji Freedom Guardian joint military exercises. UFG is a high-intensity offensive training to mount a preemptive attack on the north, the organizations and the party said. It is aimed to establish south Korea-U.S.-Japan missile defense system and form a triangular military alliance in a bid to satisfy the military and strategic understanding of the U.S. and Japan, they noted. Meanwhile, civic and public organizations in Iksan area, North Jolla Province held a press conference outside the Iksan City Office on the same day at which they demanded a halt to the joint military exercises increasing the danger of a nuclear war on the Korean peninsula and a conclusion of a peace agreement. |
