Pyongyang, August 27 (KCNA) -- A show of paintings drawn by children of the DPRK and Japan took place at Rungna Primary School in Taedonggang District, Pyongyang, on August 25-26. Present at the show were Hwang Ho Nam, vice-chairman of the Korean Society for Cultural Relations with Foreign Countries, officials concerned, teachers and pupils and their parents of the school, Japan-resident Korean children and a Japanese delegation for the show led by Shinji Yoneda, director of the Japan Federation for UNESCO. On display at the show were more than 100 paintings presented by DPRK schoolchildren, pupils of Korean primary schools in Japan and Japanese children, which represent dreams and ideals of the children in the two countries and their mental world. What drew visitors' eyes in particular are "Peaceful World" drawn by Kim Hyo Yon, a Korean child, and a painting by Yuga Sugimoto, a Japanese child, which shows children of the two countries playing merrily in the beautiful nature hand in hand with each other. There are also "Peace Area Enjoying Rich Harvest" reflecting the Korean and Japanese children's dreams in the future and other paintings that represent a child's mind to tour historical sites in a reunified country as well as children's hope for free travel to Korea and Japan by ship "Arirang". Yukiko Tsutsui, general secretary of the Korea Children Campaign, told KCNA: Those paintings, presented by the Japanese side, had won great popularity at the exhibitions in Tokyo and other parts of Japan, and they are our treasures. The show made us feel the excellent drawing skills of the DPRK pupils. I hope that the two countries would be on good terms with each other. Shinji Yoneda said Japan and the DPRK have a bright prospect for normalization of their relations at present, expressing belief that the show would play a role adding brilliance to the prospect. He hoped that the show would be recalled as a significant event in the turning point for improved relations between the two countries. |
