Memorial Service for Victims to Ukishima-maru Incident Held

Tokyo, August 27 (KNS-KCNA) -- A memorial service took place in Maizuru City, Kyoto Prefecture, Japan on August 24, the 69th anniversary of the merciless death of thousands of Koreans who were returning the homeland with the joy of national liberation due to the Ukishima-maru incident committed by the Japanese imperialists.

Present there were officials of the Kyoto Prefectural Headquarters of the General Association of Korean Residents in Japan (Chongryon), Korean compatriots and students, Koreans under the south Korean Residents Association in Japan (Mindan) and Japanese personages.

The participants observed a moment's silence in memory of the victims.

Speakers stressed that they would work hard to give vent to the grudge of the compatriots who met a grievous death.
