Performance of Opera "Song of Mt. Kumgang" Given

Pyongyang, August 29 (KCNA) -- A performance of revolutionary opera "Song of Mt. Kumgang" was given by the Kumgang-san Opera Troupe and the Phibada Opera Troupe. It marked the 40th anniversary of the formation of the Kumgang-san Opera Troupe of the General Association of Korean Residents in Japan which was formed by President Kim Il Sung. The President formed the troupe with Korean artistes in Japan in Juche 63 (1974). The troupe, general Juche-oriented art troupe of overseas Koreans, staged the opera before full houses in different parts of Japan and evoked a lively response among Koreans and foreigners. The revolutionary opera was created amid the opera revolution in the 1970s under the tireless and energetic guidance of leader Kim Jong Il. It tells about the dramatic story in which the hero who was forced to part from his family during the period under the colonial rule by the Japanese imperialists meet them under the bosom of the homeland again. The performance was given at the Pyongyang Grand Theater on Friday. Among the audience were Kim Yong Nam, Kim Ki Nam, Minister of Culture Pak Chun Nam, officials concerned and creators and artistes of art organizations here, teachers and students in the art education field. Also among the audience were Jo Il Min, chief of the Pyongyang mission of the Anti-Imperialist National Democratic Front, and its members, and overseas Koreans staying in the socialist homeland including members of the aid association of the opera troupe. |
