General Strike Declared in S. Korea

| Pyongyang, August 31 (KCNA) -- The south Korean Confederation of Trade Unions (KCTU) held a rally at Kwanghwamun plaza in Seoul on August 28 at which it declared that it would enter the general strike in demand of the institution of a special law for the probe into the truth about ferry Sewol disaster, according to KBS of south Korea. At the rally Sin Sung Chol, chairman of the KCTU, said that they would turn out in the struggle to build a world where people's security and lives are ensured. The purpose of the struggle is to institute a special law granting the right to indict and prosecute those responsible for the disaster as demanded by the bereaved families of victims of the disaster. At the end of the rally the representatives of the KCTU visited the venue of the sit-in being staged by the bereaved families, and encouraged them. |
