S. Korean Authorities Urged to Put End to Their Saber-rattling against North
|

Pyongyang, September 1 (KCNA) -- Stop to joint military exercises for invading the north is a real and important issue in ensuring peace on the Korean peninsula and improving the inter-Korean relations, says Rodong Sinmun Monday in a commentary. It is impossible to defuse mistrust and confrontation between the north and the south nor is it possible to achieve national reconciliation and unity unless an end is put to joint military exercises against the north. This is a lesson taught by history, the commentary notes, and goes on: The south Korean authorities are paying-lip service to dialogue after staging large-scale war drills seriously threatening and blackmailing the other party. This is a mockery and insult to domestic and foreign public protest against the nuclear war racket and a petty trick to evade the responsibility for the acts of pushing the inter-Korean relations to the worst phase through adventurous saber-rattling and cover up their belligerent nature. A fundamental solution to the issue is for the south Korean authorities to unconditionally halt the joint military drills they are staging with outsiders. No matter how frequently inter-Korean dialogue is held, it is bound to collapse again unless U.S.-south Korea joint military drills are halted. This is evidenced by the hard-won inter-Korean high-level contact in February this year. It failed to make any progress, driving the north-south relations into catastrophe. This was because the south Korean authorities frantically kicked up the racket of provocative nuclear war exercises in collusion with foreign forces. They should give a clear answer to the question of whether joint military drills with outsiders are more important than the destiny of the nation and improved inter-Korean relations. They should make a policy decision to put an end to the confrontation with the fellow countrymen in the north. The DPRK will never allow the racket of the U.S. and south Korean puppet forces for north-targeted joint military drills as they escalate confrontation and tensions between the north and the south, disturb dialogue and peace and increase the danger of a nuclear war. |
