The situation of Korea was very complicated just after its liberation from Japan's colonial rule. It was divided into two parts, the north and the south, with the U.S. troops' occupation of south Korea and the imperialist reactionary forces made desperate attempts to hinder the Korean people's efforts for building a new country.

Under such situation, Kim Il Sung set forth the Juche-based idea and theory on state building. In his historic speech "On Building the Party, State and Armed Forces in the Liberated Homeland", he advanced the line of nation building to be adhered to by the Korean people in building a new country.

Then he energetically guided the work to build a people-centered country in the northern part of Korea, arousing all the people's patriotic zeal to smash the imperialist reactionaries' obstructive moves.

He defined the form of political power as a people's power that defends the interests of the working masses, including workers, peasants and intellectuals, and stepped up the preparations for solving the issue of power.

To this end, he established the Provisional People's Committee of North Korea, a reference to people's democratic power carrying out the tasks of the anti-imperialist, anti-feudal democratic revolution, and enforced democratic reforms in all aspects.

On the basis of such solid foundations for building an independent and sovereign state, he founded the Democratic People's Republic of Korea on September 9, Juche 37 (1948).

The birth of the DPRK was a historic event as it made the Korean people masters of a full-fledged sovereign state.
