Centenary of Birth of Choe Chun Guk Commemorated
Pyongyang, September 6 (KCNA) -- A national meeting took place at the Central Youth Hall on Saturday to commemorate the centenary of birth of revolutionary martyr Choe Chun Guk.

Present there were Choe Thae Bok, Choe Ryong Hae, Kim Phyong Hae, the chairperson of a friendly party, officials of the party, armed forces and power organs, working people's organizations, ministries and national institutions, service personnel of the Korean People's Army, persons of merit, bereaved family members and other working people in the city.

Choe Ryong Hae, secretary of the C.C., the Workers' Party of Korea, made a report.

The reporter said that Choe Chun Guk, who was born in a poor farmer family in Onsong County, North Hamgyong Province on September 6, Juche 3 (1914), was a revolutionary soldier and loyal military and political official who performed feats in the history of the Songun revolution of Juche, holding in high esteem President Kim Il Sung with arms of the revolution.

Choe had the honor of meeting Kim Il Sung and receiving a precious instruction from him for the first time after the latter's advance into the Onsong area with a plan for building the northern border area along the River Tuman into a strategic base for the armed struggle in September, Juche 19 (1930), the reporter noted, adding: This occasioned a radical turn in his life and revolutionary struggle.

After joining the Anti-Japanese People's Guerrilla Army in the spring of Juche 21 (1932), Choe bravely fought, assuming the responsibilities of a squad leader, company political instructor, regiment commander, regiment political commissar and separate brigade political commissar under the particular loving care and trust of Kim Il Sung and thus made a great contribution to achieving the historic cause of national liberation.

After the liberation of the country, he devoted himself to the founding of the WPK and the building of regular armed forces, holding the important posts of inspector of North Hamgyong Province and branch chief of the Security Officers Training Centre, true to the line of Kim Il Sung on building a new country. During the Fatherland Liberation War, Choe performed heroic feats as a division commander by displaying matchless devotion and self-sacrificing spirit in the struggle to implement the strategic intention of Supreme Commander Kim Il Sung.

Brief as Choe's life was, the loyalty, bravery, heroism and noble mental and moral traits displayed by him in upholding the party and leader are remembered by the Korean people still today when generations were replaced by new ones and the revolution advanced far.
