Its development into a competent educational institution is associated with the devoted efforts of chief Kim Ok Son.

Kim graduated a university of education and has worked at the kindergarten for more than 30 years, starting her career as its head in Juche 72 (1983). She, once a choreographer, has devoted all her wisdom and zeal to training talented children.

Thank to her efforts, the Ponbu Kindergarten came first in the National Art Festival of Kindergarteners more than 20 times and 20-odd children of it won special and first prizes at the seven rounds of national talent competition of kindergarteners. Its children took part in the grand gymnastic and artistic performance "Arirang", striking spectators with admiration.

Leader Kim Jong Il in his lifetime highly appreciated Kim Ok Son's devoted service for the children and sent a birthday spread to her.

She won the titles of Labor Hero and People's Teacher.
