Report on Visit of WPK's Delegation to Germany, Belgium, Switzerland, Italy

Pyongyang, September 19 (KCNA) -- The delegation of the Workers' Party of Korea headed by Kang Sok Ju, member of the Political Bureau and secretary of the C.C., the WPK, visited Germany, Belgium, Switzerland and Italy from September 7 to 16. During its visit the delegation met with high-ranking officials of political parties, governments and economic circles including politicians from various political parties of Europe and discussed the issue of developing relations between the DPRK and the EU and various countries of Europe. They included Niels Annen, member of the Political Bureau of the Social-Democratic Party of Germany and chairman of its International Committee, a high-ranking representative of the German Foreign Ministry, Yonnec Polet, assistant general secretary for External Relations of the Party of European Socialists, Victor Bostinaru, vice-president for External Relations of the Group of Social Parties of the European Parliament, Elmar Brok, chairman of the Committee on Foreign Affairs of the European Parliament, Stavros Lambrinidis, special representative for human rights of the European External Action Service, Beatrice Wertli Meierhans, general secretary of the Christian Democratic People's Party of Switzerland, Pascal Couchepin, former president of the Swiss Confederation, Yves Rossier, secretary of State of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Switzerland, Yohannes Matyassy, deputy secretary of State and director for Asia-Pacific of the Ministry, Maurizio Gasparri, vice-president of the Senate of Italy, Paolo Romani, chairman of the Forza Italia Group of the Senate, Massimiliano Fedrica, chairman of the Northern League Group of the Chamber of Deputies, Gian Marco Centianio, chairman of the Northern League Group of the Senate, Antonio Razzi, secretary general of the Commission for Foreign Affairs of the Senate, and Jonathan Powell, chief executive officer of the Inter Mediate who is former chief of Staff of Downing Street. At the talks and conversations they informed each other of the political and economic situation of the DPRK and Europe, made deep and candid exchange of views on the issues of mutual concern, expressed mutual understanding of many issues and agreed to work hard to develop bilateral relations in the future. The chairman of the International Committee of the Social-Democratic Party of Germany, the secretary of State of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Switzerland and not a few officials expressed their willingness to visit Pyongyang in the future to discuss more deeply the issue of developing bilateral relations. |
