Will for Improving North-South Relations Can Be Proven in Practice Only: Rodong Sinmun

Pyongyang, September 23 (KCNA) -- These days, the south Korean authorities are behaving as if they were interested in improving the north-south relations, talking about "dialogue" and "confidence-building". An article of Rodong Sinmun Tuesday says there is no need to hold dialogue seeking sinister purposes and such a dialogue will only lead to wasting time as it can never help defuse mistrust and confrontation. The article goes on: No sincerity can be seen in the "dialogue" called for by the south Korean authorities. They insist that they do not want unification of social systems. If that is true, they should express, to begin with, their willingness to respect and implement the three principles of national reunification, the June 15 joint declaration and the October 4 declaration whose validity and vitality have already been clearly proven. If the north-south dialogue is to take place, the present ruling quarters of south Korea should drop their bad habit of reneging on the north-south agreement. At the high-level contact in February the north and the south promised before the nation to stop slandering and hurling abuses on the dialogue partner to promote mutual understanding and confidence. But no sooner had the reunions of separated families and relatives been over than the puppet authorities hurled human scum into openly scattering anti-DPRK leaflets, as if their objective were achieved. While calling for north-south high-level contact, they staged mad-cap Ulji Freedom Guardian joint military exercises to which "tailored deterrence strategy", a scenario for a preemptive attack on the north, was applied. The south Korean authorities staged anti-DPRK war exercises against the backdrop of the international sports games for peace and friendship, thereby openly disclosing their intention for confrontation and war, not reconciliation and unity between the north and the south. The south Korean authorities should prove its will to improve the north-south relations in practice by rolling back the policy of confrontation obstructive to dialogue and confidence-building and by halting anti-DPRK hostile acts such as war maneuvers and leaflet-scattering operations, before talking about "dialogue" and "confidence". |
