Pyongyang, September 23 (KCNA) -- Displayed at the Korean Art Gallery is Korean painting "Sokdamgugokdo", which was drawn in 1803 by 10-odd famous artists, including Kim Hong Do, Kim Tuk Sin and Ri In Mun. The painting, listed as one of Korea's national heritages, pictures in 12-fold screen the sceneries of mountains and streams of Sokdamgugok in Pyoksong County, South Hwanghae Province. Sokdamgugok means in English stone ponds and nine valleys. The valleys boast of crystal-like water, forests of pine trees and fantastic sceneries in four seasons. Viewers of the painting feel as if they were enjoying the sceneries on the spot. Seen in upper part of each fold of the screen are headlines written by famous calligraphers and in lower part copies of letters by Ri I who was a famous philosopher in the 16th century. The painting lively represents realism aspired by Korean painters in the early 19th century. |
