International Day of Old Persons Marked in DPRK

Pyongyang, October 1 (KCNA) -- Diverse events took place in the DPRK Wednesday to mark the International Day of Old Persons. An art performance for old persons in Pyongyang was given at the Ponghwa Art Theatre. Among the audience were Yang Hyong Sop, vice-president of the Presidium of the Supreme People's Assembly, O Su Yong, secretary of the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea, and others, officials concerned, former unconverted long-term prisoners, war veterans, merited persons and other old persons in Pyongyang. Present there on invitation were foreign diplomatic envoys, foreign embassy officials, staff members of the missions of international bodies here and overseas Koreans. The performance began with orchestra "Pyongyang Is Best." Put on the stage were colorful numbers such as mixed duet and chorus "We Can't Live without You", dance "Jaenggang Dance" and kayagum ensemble "Nilliri of Moranbong". Multifarious sports and amusement games for the aged in Pyongyang took place at pleasure grounds and parks in every district including Phalgol Park and Puksae Sports Park. Okryu Restaurant, Chongryu Restaurant and other public catering establishments and welfare services kindly served old persons. Old persons spent pleasant time in the Amusement Ground of Kaeson Youth Park, Rungna People's Pleasure Park and other cultural recreation grounds and visited various places. Officials of the party and power bodies visited homes for the aged to present them with daily necessities and souvenirs. Art performances were given at art theatres in all provinces. Amusement games of old persons were held in every scenic spot and recreation ground across the country. Welfare service facilities provided special service to old persons. |
