On this occasion, the Korean people recall with deep emotion the feats President Kim Il Sung performed for the nation's sports development.

On August 2, Juche 38 (1949), Kim Il Sung called a DPRK Cabinet meeting to institute a day of physical culture, saying that second Sunday of every October would be appropriate for it. He stressed that all units should organize more brisk mass sports activities with the day as an occasion and ranks of sportspersons be increased and more excellent players trained through such activities.

On October 30 that year, the President attended the national sports games marking Day of Physical Culture to encourage its participants. At the games there was a mass gymnastic display by 10,000 persons and tens of athletes set national records in track-and-field, weightlifting and cycling events.

Since then, the DPRK people have conducted various sports contests and mass sports activities on Day of Physical Culture every year.

On Sunday, Day of Physical Culture for this year, colorful sports and amusement games took place at industrial establishments, farms and schools across the country.
