The statement said:

At the 6th Congress of the Workers' Party of Korea on Oct. 10, 1980 President Kim Il Sung advanced the proposal for reunifying Korea by founding the Democratic Federal Republic of Koryo.

The federal formula is a most peaceful one for reunification without reason of conflict and danger of war as it calls for leaving the two differing ideologies and social systems as they are in a reunified federal state.

If the federal formula is in force, the north and the south will further promote mutual understanding, strengthen the national reconciliation and unity and put an end to the division of the country caused by foreign forces.

If the federal formula is enforced and national unity is achieved, this will greatly contribute to defusing the tension on the Korean Peninsula and achieving the peace and security of the world.

We fully support the proposal for founding the Democratic Federal Republic of Koryo, recognizing it as a patriotic and reasonable one for Korea's reunification.

We call upon all peace- and justice-loving political parties and organizations and nations of the world to fully support Korea's reunification by federal formula.
