Taking part in the contest, classified into mixed doubles, team and individual events, are more than 200 amateurs selected from Pyongyang and provinces. It is divided into five groups by age.

Mixed doubles event is to start on October 19 and individual event on October 20.

Ri Pong Il, deputy secretary general of the Korean Paduk Association, told KCNA that the contest, the first of its kind, would offer a good occasion in improving the paduk technique and raising the public interest in paduk.

The contest will last until October 22.
