Pyongyang, October 24 (KCNA) -- Papers Friday in articles dedicated to the Day of the United Nations say the reform of the UN Security Council is an urgent issue whose solution brooks no further delay. The UN is a world body founded for the purpose of preventing humankind from suffering again such war disaster as the Second World War, says Rodong Sinmun. Different countries of the world are showing increasing concern and expectation toward the U.N. in the light of its mission and duty. To our regret, the U.N. fails to strictly abide by the principle of its activities. There is increasing urgency to ensure world peace and security through the U.N. positive activities. It is necessary to democratize the UN and successfully meet the challenges to the UN Charter in order to ensure justice, impartiality and equality in the UN mechanism system and activities. The reform of the UNSC is, in essence, the work to democratize the UN and international relations. The UN should not turn its face away from the trend of the era towards putting an end to wars that bring misfortune and pain to the earth. The respect for sovereignty, equal sovereignty and principle of non-interference in internal affairs enshrined in the UN Charter are now openly disregarded at the UNSC and "resolutions" which justify and legalize the U.S. policy for world domination are being railroaded through it. The reform of the UNSC should be carried out on the principle of thoroughly ensuring the responsibility, impartiality and objectivity in its activities and fully guaranteeing the representation of the developing countries in the composition. Minju Joson says that the U.N. should lend an ear to the demand of the international community and make a firm decision in reforming the UNSC. |
