The director of the Higher Education Department of the Regional Leadership of the Syria's Baath Arab Socialist Party was elected chairman of the memorial committee.

The committee decided to give wide publicity to Kim Jong Il's undying exploits and organize political and cultural events including remembrance meeting on the occasion of the 3rd anniversary of his demise.
