The north side's Council for the Reunification of Tangun's Nation and the south side's Council for the Peaceful Unification of Tangun's Nation made public a joint appeal Monday. It said:

Due to the illegal treaty which the Japanese imperialists fabricated in a gangster-like manner at the point of bayonets, the Korean nation had its country usurped to be forced into slavery under the harsh colonial rule of the Japanese imperialists.

Japan still behaves so impudent as to distort history and move to seize Tok Islets, far from making due apology and reparations for their past crimes. This only adds crimes to what it had committed against the Koreans.

The situation demands the Koreans put an end to outsiders' domination and interference, defend dignity and sovereignty of the nation and achieve the historical cause of national reunification, rallied close as one.

In order to fulfill one's duty as a member of the Tangun nation in response to this call of the times reflecting the requirements and desire of the fellow countrymen, the Councils strongly appealed to all the Koreans in the north and the south and abroad as follows:

Let's reject aggressive outsiders and firmly maintain the stand of By Our Nation Itself.

Independence is what keeps the nation alive and dependence on outsiders is what leads the nation to ruin.

Let's kindle higher the flame for independence against outsiders and resolutely foil Japan's ambition for reinvasion of Korea and its moves for seizing Tok Islets.

The driving force of national reunification is all the Koreans in the north and the south and abroad.

The reunification of the country can be achieved independently in line with the interests and requirements of the nation only when the stand of By Our Nation Itself is strictly maintained.

Let's never tolerate the traitorous moves of the sycophantic and conservative forces aimed to push the nation into ruin through "cooperation" with outsiders out of the stand of flunkeyism and dependence on them.

Let's turn as one in the struggle to defend the security and peace of the nation.

Let all the Koreans valuing justice and peace unite as one and resolutely foil the reckless nuclear war exercise moves of the U.S. and bellicose forces.

Let all the Koreans turn out in the struggle for ending confrontation between the fellow countrymen, slandering the other side and for warming the north-south ties as early as possible.

Let's resolutely foil the leaflet-scattering operations and "human rights" racket which are harmful to converting the north-south relations into those of genuine reconciliation and confidence.

National unity precisely means peace and reunification.

Whoever is a member of the Tangun nation truly loving the country and the nation and wishing for reunification should get united by placing the interests common to the nation and national reunification above all irrespective of differing ideology, ism, political view, religious belief, social system, party and affiliation.

All the fellow countrymen in the north and the south and abroad who are descendents of Tangun!

Let all of us pool efforts with our own efforts, overcome difficulties and trials lying in the way of national reunification, wage more fierce struggle for implementing the historic June 15 joint declaration and the October 4 declaration and thus open up a new phase of independent reunification and peace and prosperity without fail on this land.

Let everyone devote one's own wisdom, efforts, sweats and sincerity to the cause of national reunification with patriotic mind and thus provide our descendents with one, reunified motherland.
